New York Fashion Week - GANT by Michael Bastian

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNoWFdIJ9Lkendofvid [starttext] This past New York Fashion Week was a big one for Michael Bastian. With his eponymous mainline taking a breather while he tracks down new manufacturers, his collection for Gant was one of the biggest draws as far as the men’s shows were concerned. We attended the presentation and were absolutely blown away with Michael’s ability to combine so many unique styles into something that is still cohesive. The video above is an atmospheric look at the collection with some choice words from the man himself.

Showcasing American sportswear at its finest, Michael Bastian’s latest outing for Gant supplied a wardrobe fit for a summer of leisure and style. From easy khakis and colorful madras to the comfort of vintage-cut swimming trunks, Gant supplied a classic picture of the no-fuss man who still prides himself on appearances.

The biggest news out of the new Gant by Michael Bastian presentation is that Bastian, one of the ascendant stars of American men's wear, has now turned his attention to women's wear for the first time. And don’t get us wrong: the women looked great. Very glamorous. But the men were clearly the stars of the show, which featured a series of 14 tableaux vivantes that showed cool young guys hitting on pretty young girls at various stages of a long summer holiday. Think The Talented Mr. Bastian: cut-off shorts with frayed edges paired with navy blazers; soft washed chinos in weathered shades of red, green, and blue; and color-blocked striped shirts worn with roughed-up jeans. It was all very Dickie Greenleaf circa 2010, and though there was a nice gray cotton suit and even a tie-print dinner jacket, low-key weekend wear was Bastian’s main focus. Between the clothes and the women and the knockout sunglasses, next summer can't come quickly enough. [endtext]
